What we do
HMS are a historical society that portray the Royal Navy of the 19th and 20th centuries. With the use of period costume we depict the life of men & women in the Georgian Navy/Nelson’s Navy around the time of the the Battle of Trafalgar and those of the First and Second World Wars.
Our aim is to give a flavour of those exciting times and occasionally we ‘put to sea’ in small boats or canoes suitable for the period.
HMS puts on displays at many coastal and inland sites, such as Whitby, Gloucester and Portsmouth
The Blue Launch is our 19th century jolly boat which the society built for itself. Small vessels such as these where use to ferry men and cargo from land to ship when a suitable port was not available.
